Mums the Word!

After more than an hour of planting hundreds of mums, the Friends of Westgate Park volunteers gather near a flower bed. Tom Price, a westside resident who is also a volunteer with the group, grew all of the 250 mums that were planted on July 22 in his basement. He said that there will be 10 varieties this year and a majority of these Bell Mums will be introduced to the public next year. β€œIt will be kind of a preview event,” he joked.
Two months from now, these little babies that Molly Donavan is helping to plant will become one of the most beloved attractions at Westgate Park come fall – the gorgeous and colorful mums that adorn the large bed near the main entrance.
