The Mount Sterling Veterans Monument committee is making good progress.

Village council agreed to create a fund specifically for donations to the project. The estimated price for the monument, to be erected at the gazebo park across from town hall, is $85,000. Mayor Charlie Neff said the cost could be cut nearly in half by with volunteer help. He still estimates the committee will need to raise $45,000 through donations and fund-raisers.

The next fundraiser is a Poker Run set for Sept. 13. The event will start in Mason Park and feature a 150-mile motorcycle tour, food, a bounce house and dunk tank.

Donations for the monument can be made through the village office. Funds should be identified as for the “Mt. Sterling Veterans Monument Fund.” For details, call the village offices at (740) 869-2040.
