Heartwarming. Family-friendly. Free.

Columbus Children’s Theatre’s upcoming performance of “Mr. Scrooge” ticks all three boxes.

Sponsored by Mount Sterling Public Library, the show is set for 1 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Mount Sterling Community Center, 164 E. Main St. The show lasts 60 minutes and is appropriate for ages 6 and up.

Based on the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,” “Mr. Scrooge” tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a crotchety, self-serving old man visited by three spirits on Christmas Eve. Over the course of an unforgettable night, he learns how to “become a good friend, as good a master, and as good a man.” The cast of colorful characters includes Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, Jacob Marley and many more.

“This is our way of bringing some holiday spirit to the community, and it’s a great show for all ages,” said Chris Siscoe, library director, adding that the timing of the show coincides with the first day of winter break for Madison-Plains Local Schools and some of the other surrounding school districts.

This isn’t the first time the library has sponsored a Columbus Children’s Theatre performance. A few years ago, the group was part of the entertainment lineup for the library’s summer reading program.

The Columbus Children’s Theatre was founded in 1963 to offer classes in theatre and production experience for children in central Ohio. The organization continues to offer classes, as well as after-school programs, traveling productions, and main stage productions featuring both children and adults. The organization’s home base is the Park Street Theatre in Columbus.
