Madison-Plains boys’ varsity soccer team has been making steady improvement over the course of the 2020 season. That hard work paid off in a 4-1 victory over Wellston on Sept. 19.

Senior forward Mason Brown opened his scoring account with his first goal of the season on an assist from Dyson Lopez halfway through the first half.

Madison-Plains controlled possession and held a strong shot advantage going into halftime, up 1-0. Shortly after the break, Wellston connected on a shot from outside of the box to tie the game. The Golden Eagles responded with Lopez finding Brown again for his second goal of the game to make it 2-1. Moments later, a Seth Marchiando throw-in found Danny Powell open in the box to make it 3-1. Lopez went on to finish the game at a final score of 4-1 with an assist from Brown.

The Golden Eagles controlled possession of the ball throughout, finishing with more than 20 shots on goal. With two goalkeepers out for Madison-Plains, sophomore Reiley Elfrink stepped in to make five saves and keep Wellston to the one goal.

The next game for Madison-Plains is tonight against Grove City Christian at home.
