Mayor Richard “Ike” Stage announced the promotion of Richard Butsko, Jr. as Grove City’s police chief effective July 27.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Chief Butsko began his career with the Grove City Division of Police in 1992. He most recently served as lieutenant over the Field Services Subdivision until his promotion to succeed Chief Jeffrey Pearson. Pearson retired after serving the city for 26 years.
“We are truly fortunate to have a strong leadership team within the division, enabling us to select our next chief from internal candidates,” said Stage.
Butsko has served the Grove City Division of Police in nearly all subdivisions and capacities. A Certified Law Enforcement Executive with a bachelor of science degree in public safety management, Butsko is currently pursuing a master of science degree in criminal justice.
“I am eager to continue working together with our tremendous police division team, well-recognized as a leader in public safety and community engagement,” said Butsko.
“Our division of police is comprised of a highly dedicated and organized team of law enforcement professionals who continually strive to provide the ultimate in service and safety,” said Deputy Administrator/Safety Director William Vedra, Jr. “Rick has continued to emerge as a leader in the division and I look forward to working with him in his new role as chief.”
A formal swearing-in ceremony will take place in Council Chambers, Monday, Aug. 20.
