Mocha and Ophelia are up for adoption

(Posted Jan. 2, 2024)

The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Hello, world! My name is Mocha, but I also go by “good girl,” “cutie patootie,” and “sweetheart.” I came to this place after a nice police officer found me roaming around. The nice people here tell me I am a terrier mix and I weigh a healthy 38 pounds. They estimate my birthday as January 2022. I am young and have lots of energy to burn off all day long.

I know how to sit when they tell me to. I really love treats, and I think I’m pretty darn smart, so training me would be easy. Sometimes, I get the zoomies, and I need time and patience to calm myself down. I am learning to walk on a leash without pulling too hard. I just need someone who can dedicate some time throughout the day to help me learn. I do work with a lot of the staff and volunteers here every day, and I am making really good progress.

After I get all my zoomies out and I am tired, I really become affectionate and a great big love bug. I enjoy getting lots of pets, and I absolutely love a good belly rub. The dog trainer here said I did such a good job meeting another dog and we played very well together. Cats really aren’t my thing only because I just get a little too excited when meeting them. I do a great job keeping my kennel space nice and tidy, only having occasional accidents when it’s overnight and I must hold it a bit longer.

I really am a wonderful girl who is looking to be a loyal companion for just the right person.

Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $180, prison dogs are $250, puppies are $300, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17; this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Sweet Ophelia was found abandoned and rescued by a nice person who brought her to the shelter. Ophelia has an estimated birthdate of Oct. 1, 2021. She is a little shy at first but warms up quickly. She is a laid-back lady for the most part but does have a sassy streak when the mood strikes. She’s a great girl but will make her opinion known if she isn’t a fan of something.

Ophelia loves pets and getting brushed. She would be a wonderful addition to just about any household, whether she is the only fur baby or in a home with other furry friends.

Adoption fees for cats are $100 for kittens up to 6 months old and $80 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test (if old enough), spay or neuter, a Home Again microchip, a set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
