Prairie Township Road Superintendent Dave McAninch announced final project deadlines for the long-anticipated demolition of the apartments at Stiles and Mix Avenues at the Jan. 2 regularly scheduled meeting.

The Prairie Township Board of Trustees approved an agreement with civil and environmental engineering consultants R. D. Zande & Associates, Inc. for $5,250 to oversee and execute required steps toward eventual demolition completion.

The township expects to accept a contract for demolition by Feb. 13, execute the contract by Feb. 27, and promises a completion deadline of Apr. 18.

Though the demolition was originally predicted to take place in January or February, Steve Kennedy remains optimistic.

“At least we do have a date. It looks like it’s going to be sometime in March that they should be done with everything. We’re off to a really good start…There’s a process we have to go through and it’s slowly getting done.”

Township Administrator Tracy Hatmaker further reported that the buildings do not contain any asbestos, which will keep the cost of demolition from “running away.”

Also at the meeting, Zoning Department representative Connie Swisher announced the resignation of Bruce White from the Big Darby Accord advisory panel and outlined tentative plans to advertise for the position.

The Big Darby Accord advisory panel seeks to ensure fair and consistent review and application of all processes for the ten participating jurisdictions in the Big Darby Watershed. It also serves as a means for collaboration among each jurisdiction in order to consider preservation and growth strategies to protect the Big Darby Creek and its tributaries.

Any resident interested in participating in the Big Darby Accord advisory panel should contact Township Administrator Tracy Hatmaker at 878-3317 for further details.
