Medline, the largest privately-owned medical products manufacturer and distributor in North America, announced on July 31 that its new West Jefferson distribution facility is open for business and fully operational. The facility will add another 100 new jobs to its existing 75-member team to support Medline’s growing customer base in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
“We are excited to call West Jefferson our new home,” said Bill Abington, Medline executive vice president for global operations. “Access to local talent and state-of-the-art technology will help us deliver vital medical supplies to Ohio and Appalachian Region health care providers where they need them, when they need them.”
The $75 million medical-grade distribution center is a 1.2 million square-foot facility from which approximately 20,000 individual products and devices will be shipped to healthcare providers such as hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory surgery centers, hospices and physician offices. More than $300 million in annual orders will ship from the West Jefferson facility.
“Medline’s decision to choose the Columbus region for this new facility demonstrates how Ohio is an ideal destination to build out the nation’s medical supply chain,” said J.P. Nauseef, JobsOhio president and CEO. “This state-of-the-art facility will create 175 new jobs and operate with talent that will play an essential role in getting critical medical supplies to Medline’s growing customer base.”
The new facility utilizes the latest technology, including an advanced robotic picking system, hands-free voice picking systems and a wireless communications system. The energy efficient design and LEED-certified building minimizes environmental impacts.
“We are excited to see Medline open their state-of-the-art distribution facility in West Jefferson. We look forward to supporting their facility as they operate and thrive in our community,” said Ray Martin, West Jefferson mayor.
The West Jefferson site was selected because of its access to transportation infrastructure and commitment to its current local workforce. All 75 current Medline team members in Groveport will transfer to the new distribution center and retain their current jobs.
Medline has been operating in Ohio for two decades. It has a second Ohio distribution center in Canton.
