Lydia McClay of Canal Winchester received the Caldy Award for her relief print titled "Seeps of Old" at the 2008 Juried Student Art Exhibition at Ashland University’s Coburn Art Gallery. A junior fine arts major at Ashland, McClay is a 2005 graduate of Canal Winchester High School. McClay said her inspiration for the piece came from a professor on campus. "I was inspired one day walking to class and seeing an older professor with many deep wrinkles in his skin. I think these marks tell us a lot about the kind of life a person has lived, and I wanted to create a piece that took these telling marks‚ to a more dynamic level," said McClay. After graduation McClay intends on getting a master’s degree in art therapy. |
