The Madison Township trustees must fill a vacancy on their board.
The trustees are is looking to appoint a highly qualified individual to serve as trustee for the remainder of an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2023. The Ohio Revised Code (O.R.C.) §503.24 requires that the board “shall appoint a person having the qualifications of an elector to fill such vacancy for the unexpired term or until a successor is elected.” To continue service after Dec. 31, 2023, the successful candidate will need to file a petition and be on the ballot for the Nov. 7, 2023, General Election, and win to retain the seat. It is the board’s desire that the appointee will commit to run in the General Election to serve a full-term ending Dec. 31, 2027.
The board is seeking an individual that demonstrates a record of leadership and achievement, coupled with a strong desire to serve our community. Madison Township is one of the three largest townships in Franklin County, with a budget exceeding $22 million.
Madison Township provides fire and police service to Canal Winchester, Groveport, and the unincorporated areas, while the public works department provides service to the unincorporated areas. In total, Madison Township employs approximately 110 employees.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or higher, have leadership experience in the public or private sector, possess strong analytical skills, and work well as a member of the township’s leadership team, which includes two other trustees and the fiscal officer, the administrator, and department heads. In executive session, trustees may be required to review and provide guidance on reports, complaints, or issues that may contain offensive content.
Significantly, as a member of the Board, the appointee will have access to sensitive pre and post-employment records and be briefed on issues that must remain confidential. The successful candidate must be available for regular monthly meetings in addition to special meetings that are scheduled for issues that arise and cannot wait until the regular meeting the next month. This equates to approximately 20 meetings per year, and the meetings must be attended in person. Per the Ohio Revised Code, the successful candidate must be able to obtain $250,000 performance bond (O.R.C. §505.02) and complete the required three (3) hour public records training (O.R.C.§109.43(B)).
