Madison Township police and fire chiefs retire

Madison Township Police Chief Ken Braden retired as of Jan. 3. Current Detective Nate Schiffel will serve as interim police chief. Schiffel was first hired as a police officer in 2006. Schiffel began police chief duties on Jan. 3. No timeline has been set for hiring a new permanent police chief, according township officials.

Madison Township Fire Chief Robert Bates retired as of Jan. 13. Bates was originally hired as fire chief in 2000. Battalion Chief Chris Pallos, a 40 year veteran of the department, was named interim fire chief. Pallos began serving as interim fire chief as of Jan. 13. No timeline has been set for hiring a new permanent fire chief, according township officials.

Township officials said this is the first time the township has to replace the police chief and fire chief at the same time.
