The second annual Iron Eagle Classic Powerlifting Meet took place on Dec. 21 with more than 100 student athletes from Madison County and its surrounding counties competing. The event, which was hosted by the Madison-Plains High School weightlifting team, saw some participants break individual records and come oh-so-close to others. The Madison-Plains boys’ and girls’ teams place first overall.

Madison-Plains sophomore Caiman Kelly deadlifts 405 pounds, which was a personal best for him in the event.
Sarah Thomas, a senior at Madison-Plains, offers encouragement to her teammate Cori Charles as she gets ready to try for a personal best of 230 pounds.
Jonathan Martin, a junior at Madison-Plains, attempts to bench press 205 pounds as fellow junior, Colton Miller supervises. Martin said he was disappointed he was unable to bench press that amount but was proud of his deadlift numbers later on in the meet.
