The Madison County Democratic Central Committee has announced their endorsement of a Democratic candidate in the Aug. 3 special primary election. The election will determine who will vie for Ohio’s U.S. 15th Congressional District seat in the Nov. 2 general election.

Steve Stivers, a Republican, vacated the seat in May to take a job as president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

“We wholeheartedly endorse Allison Russo,” said Anne Gorman, chair of the county’s Democratic party. “We were impressed with her knowledge of what’s going on in the State House, and her experience as a representative will make her a very viable candidate for the Senate.”

Russo is one of two Democratic candidates on the Aug. 3 ballot. Greg Betts is the other candidate.

Russo holds a doctoral degree in health policy from The George Washington University and a master’s degree in public health epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In her professional career, she has served as a public health policy consultant for nearly 20 years. She is serving her second term as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 24.

Last week, the Madison Messenger reported that the Madison County Republican Central Committee endorsed Bob Peterson, one of 11 Republicans running for the seat.
