Mount Sterling’s Summer Jam Festival returned after a year away. Hundreds of fun seekers passed through the village June 17-19 to ride rides, play games, and enjoy food and attractions.

Jordan Pettey, president of the Mount Sterling Eagles Youth League, reacts after he takes another trip into the dunk tank.
Nine-month-old Stormy Jo Dowdy smiles it up with her nana, Dee Reed, after winning first place in the baby contest. Her sister, Scout, also took home a crown during her event in the 5- to 7-year-old age group.
The only thing that’s cooler than the cooler with wheels Anthony Stewart is riding is the bike he decorated with his son, Jaxson, for the Summer Jam bike decorating contest. The pair took first place.
London resident Ben Shuler entered his 1.5-year-old Boxer mix, Callie, in the dog costume contest presented by Kountry Klippings Pet Grooming. He said her nerves got the better of her at her first foray into the costume-wearing world. “She didn’t place,” he said, “but she’s number one in my heart.”
With a name like his, it’s no wonder that Maverick Chapman, 2, enjoys his ride on the Blue Angels airplane ride so much. The Chapman family used to live in Mount Sterling but moved to South Bloomfield. Maverick’s mother said they like to come back for the festival.
Lyric Johns, 3, reacts as she gets a glimpse of her floral face painting from artist Sierra Fetter.
Jack Shapland gets in tune with Logan Shreeve (not pictured) as they sing “The Zephyr Song” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The karaoke booth, sponsored by Hammer Time Pub, was a popular destination for adults.
