Lots of fall and Halloween-themed events this week in Mt. Sterling

Numerous fall and Halloween-themed events are taking place this week in Mount Sterling.

Halloween/Fall Yard Contest: The Mount Sterling Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Halloween/Fall yard decorating contest. The top three yards will be recognized; winners will receive Chamber bucks to spend at local merchants. The public is invited to submit nominations by calling Courtney Bricker at town hall, (740) 869-2040, ext. 5. Judging is slated for 5 p.m. Oct. 29. The contest is open to residents of Mount Sterling and the communities of Burr Oak and McClimansville.

Haunted House: Masonic Lodge 269, 54 N. London St., is hosting a haunted house Oct. 29-30 from 6 to 10 p.m. and Oct. 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

Trunk-or-Treat at Win Cup: Win Cup, 150 Fourth Ave., is hosting a trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Trick-or-Treat: The village’s trick-or-treat hours are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

Halloween Costume Parade: Dairy Freeze, 85 N. London St., is hosting a Halloween costume parade on Oct. 31. Registration is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dairy Freeze. Entrants are asked to gather at the gazebo across from village hall, 1 S. London St. at 7:30 p.m. With a Madison County Sheriff’s cruiser and a Tri-County Joint Fire District fire truck in the lead, the parade will step off at 7:45, traveling down London Street back to the Dairy Freeze where participants can enjoy free hot chocolate, doughnuts and cider. Trophies will be awarded at 8 p.m.

Pet Costume Parade: Kountry Klippings pet grooming is hosting a costumed pet parade on Oct. 31. Entrants are invited to dress up their pets–any kind of pet. Registration is set for 3 p.m. in front of village hall, 1 S. London St. The parade will step off at 4 p.m., traveling down London Street from village hall to the Dairy Freeze, 85 N. London St., where trophies will be awarded in the following categories: most creative, cutest, most original, scariest, and best overall.

Trunk-or-Treat at Victory church: The Victory Pentecostals church, 15770 Route 62 SE, Mount Sterling, will hold a trunk-or-treat on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat at Bank: North Valley Bank, 255 Yankeetown St., is hosting a trunk-or-treat from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31. The event features candy, games, prizes, hotdogs and chips.
