The second season of Movies by Moonlight is under way in London.

The city hosted its first movie night of the summer on June 1, showing “Despicable Me 3” on the city’s big screen at Cowling Park. The remainder of the line-up is as follows:

* June 15–“Paddington 2”

* June 29–“Jumanji”

* July 13–“Coco”

* July 27–“The Jungle Book”

* Aug. 10–“Peter Rabbit”

Admission is free. Each movie night starts at 8 p.m. with the movie showing at 9. Participants are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs. The park is located at 175 N. Main St.

Once again, Mayor Patrick Closser has rounded up sponsors to cover the licensing costs to show the movies and provide pre-show fun, like children’s activities, information booths, and free snacks and drinks.

“Each sponsor seems to always do something different than the others,” Closser said.

This year’s sponsors are United Way, London Kiwanis, First United Methodist Church of London, Rocking Horse Community Health Center, the Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and PAX.

The movies are shown on an inflated outdoor screen donated by the associates of Stanley Electric U.S. in London.

“Last year’s movies were very successful with 200 to 300 people attending each movie, and I look for the movies to grow in attendance as the word gets out more on how fun the events are,” Closser said.

Information about the movies series, including rain dates if needed and special activities, can be found at ci.london.us and on Facebook @LondonOhioGovtService, @mayorclosser, and @londonparksandrec.
