A suspect in the shooting death of a London man turned himself into Springfield Police on Jan. 28.
Tevin Howard Jackson, 24, formerly of London, appeared in Madison County Municipal Court on Jan. 29. He was charged with the murder of William N. Benson, 28, of London.
According to a new release issued by the London Police Department, investigators used witness information, video sources and forensic evidence to determine Jackson’s role in the shooting.
Jackson and another suspect, Justin Coffey, 24, who was killed as a result of the crime, attempted to rob Benson and Zachary Edmond, 28, of marijuana and cash at their apartment on Lamplight Court in London on Jan. 22, said London Police Chief Glenn Nicol.
Gunfire was exchanged. Benson died at the scene. Edmond was transported to Madison Health and then to Ohio State University Medical Center for treatment for a gunshot wound.
Coffey was transported to Madison Health then to Grant Hospital, where he died as the result of a gunshot wound. Jackson fled the scene and was treated for gunshot wounds at hospitals in Springfield and Dayton and released.
London Police issued a warrant for Jackson’s arrest on Jan. 26.
Nicol said more charges could be filed.
“There’s still a lot of investigative work to do,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing with the participation of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
