Already gearing up for next school year, the London City Schools board of education approved on June 28 a long list of personnel items, including several administrative contracts:

  • Carol Daniels, elementary principal, one year;
  • Melissa Canney, student support services, two years;
  • Michael Crace, middle school assistant principal, one year;
  • Mike Eaglowski, maintenance director, one year;
  • Chad Eisler, high school principal, two years;
  • Dennis Long, bus mechanic, three years; and
  • Pauline Swan, London Academy director, two years.

The board also approved several coaching contracts for the 2016-17 school year. Receiving approval as head varsity coaches at the high school were: Richard Burns, wrestling; Trey Wright, girls’ soccer; Kelly Nelson, softball; Dillan Shumaker, golf; and Melissa Peterman, fall and winter cheer advisor.

District Treasurer Kristine Blind announced that she is changing the bank the district uses from Huntington to The Savings Bank. The transition will take place sometime this fall, she said. The Savings Bank is waiving all service charges for the first year, a savings of about $6,000.

“When the opportunity presented itself to partner with someone small, more local, I thought that was a good move,” Blind said.

Superintendent Dr. Lou Kramer reported that installation of the new artificial turf at Bowlus Field is running a bit ahead of schedule. As of June 28, the turf had been put down and mostly sewn into place. Cement had been poured for the pole vault and high jump pits.

Across the road at the middle school, crews are just about ready to start grading the sports fields. A second grading, seeding and fertilization is on the schedule for this fall.
