London hosts Family Day Aug. 3

The London Business Council, a division of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and the City of London have chosen “Family Fun Day” as the theme for downtown’s First Friday event on Aug. 3.

Activities will run from noon until 8:30 p.m., some on the courthouse lawn and others along South Main Street.

The Madison County Diabetes Association will perform blood glucose screenings from noon to 8 p.m. at the courthouse. For details, contact Nena at 740-845-7232 or 614-879-9470.

Madison County doctors are sponsoring a kiddie tractor pull at 6:30 in the parking lot of Advantage Bank. Prizes will go to the top pullers in four age groups—3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.

Next to an information tent, the physicians will have a “Dunk the Doc” tank. A nominal fee will be charged to dunk a doc. All proceeds, including a donation from the physicians for each successful dunk, will go to the Madison County Free Clinic.

Ministry For Community will give away a cornhole game. Habitat for Humanity also will give away a prize. Other participants include Loving Care Hospice, The Welcome Table, Madison County Food Pantry, the Madison County Health Department, Red Cross, Diabetes Association, Gary Stites of Home Security System, Elizabeth’s Hope Pregnancy Center, A Friend’s House, Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails, Good Earth Equipment and others.

Local churches will serve ice cream, downtown merchants will be open for business, and a bake sale and other activities will take place on the courthouse lawn.

“I hope that people realize that they can bring their entire family down to this event,” said Patty Boerger, London Business Council chairwoman. “There will be something for everyone.”
