The 48th Annual Erin Nance Fall Distance Classic will take place Oct. 1 at the London Country Club.
Coach Marty Komives started the cross country meet in 1974 as the London Invitational. It became the Erin Nance Fall Classic in 1998. That’s 24 years as the London Invitational and now 24 years as the Erin Nance Fall Classic. Terry Nance became the meet manager in 1978. This year’s meet is his 44th edition.
The race schedule is as follows:
9 a.m.–high school girls’ open
9:40 a.m.–high school girls’ varsity
10:20 a.m.–high school boys’ open
10:50–high school boys’ varsity
11:15 a.m.–middle school girls
11:40 a.m.–middle school boys
The high school teams competing at this year’s invitational are: Big Walnut, Central Crossing, Grove City, Delaware Hayes, Hilliard Darby, Clayton Northmont, Olentangy, Westland, Teays Valley, Whitehall, St. Charles, London, Amanda Clearcreek, Team FCA, Columbus School for Girls, Madison Christian, Madison-Plains, Wellington, and Westfall.
The middle school teams are: Amanda Clearcreek, Big Walnut, Darby Buffaloes, Delaware Dempsey, Fairbanks, Grandview Heights, London, Madison-Plains, Clayton Northmont, Olentangy Shanahan, Wellington, Westfall, and Team FCA.
There is no admission fee for spectators, but a $2 parking donation is asked with those donations going to the Erin Nance Memorial Scholarship at London High School. Meet t-shirts are for sale which also benefit the scholarship fund. Since 1998, 91 London High School seniors have received a total of $51,900 in scholarships from the Erin Fund. A concession stand sponsored by the country club will be open.
