The London Music Boosters have partnered with Ohio Computer Recycling to offer a service to the community as well as a fundraiser for the London City Schools music department.
Throughout the month of April, and possibly longer, Ohio Computer Recycling will park a trailer behind London High School to collect recyclable computer components and electronics, including: computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, printers, fax machines, copiers, cell phones, scanners, cables and wires, VCRs, DVD players, CD and DVD media, floppy disks, phone equipment, stereo equipment, cameras, camcorders, PDAs, video game systems and games.
"We found out about the program when the library in West Jefferson did it in February," said Keith Church, who serves as co-president of the London Music Boosters with his wife, Kathy. "We have five kids and the computers have piled up over the years. We took a pickup-full over to West Jefferson, then got to thinking this would be a good thing for us to do in London."
During school hours, those who wish to participate should check in at London High School’s front office. Band Director Craig Lewis will unlock the trailer at that time. Members of the London Music Boosters, who are coordinating the recycling project, will man the trailer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Anyone, no matter where they live, may drop off items to be recycled.
Additionally, Church is available to pick up items from residences and businesses in the London area.
"We will get 5 cents for every pound of equipment that is recycled. Each trailer holds 2,000 pounds," Church said.
The Boosters have not yet prioritized what they will spend money on this year, but Church said new instruments for the band are a possibility.
