Jaden Mattox returned to the state wrestling tournament as the Division I State Champion at 132 pounds with his sights set on the 152 pound title. The Central Crossing junior was up against the best 152 pound wrestlers the state had to offer as well as a bout with pneumonia. Mattox took wins in his first three matches with two pins and a tech fall to earn a shot at the title against two-time state champion David Carr (pictured here). The two battled it out for three periods with the Massillon Perry junior coming out on top 7-1 giving Mattox his only loss of the season as he finished with a record of 32-1.
Grove City senior Dane Whittier qualified for the 80th annual State Wrestling Individual Tournament held March 9-11 at The Jerome Schottenstein Center. Whittier earned a trip to the state event by finishing fourth in the Division III 285 pound class at the district tourney and entered the event with a record of 42-7. Whittier is shown here during a match up with Zaid Hamdan of Mason who came out on top 3-2.
