Local charities and police work together to distribute blessing bags

Sahara-Columbus volunteers decorate blessing bags that will be distributed to families in need by Columbus police officers.

The Columbus Division of Police have teamed up with charities to provide Christmas blessing bags and meals to local families in need.

In a partnership facilitated by Starfish Assignment, volunteers from Sahara-Columbus collected and bagged groceries to be delivered by officers. The bags were decorated by children of Sahara volunteers. On Dec. 20, Sahara-Columbus delivered the bags to officers, who then passed out the food to families across the city.

Sahara-Columbus donated the following for officers to distribute:
• 50 Christmas meal bags
• 50 blessing bags for individuals experiencing homelessness
• 200 treat bags for kids

Thanks to CME Federal Credit Union, Byers Auto and Starfish Assignment donors, each bag also contained a $50 grocery gift card.
