A portion of Lithopolis Road will close to all but local traffic for construction just as Canal Winchester students return to school for the 2007-08 academic year.
Roger McLoney, a senior project manager with the Ruscilli Company, told the Canal Winchester Board of Education at its July 9 meeting that the road at Parkview Drive will be shut down for one month while workers reconfigure the intersection to provide access to Parkview.
"The county is afraid of safety problems if Lithopolis Road is not shut down during construction of turn lanes," McLoney said. "They’ll probably shut it down on Aug. 27, which is the first day of school, and try to re-open Sept. 26."
Lithopolis Road will be closed between Hayes and Groveport roads with traffic detoured to Richardson and Hayes roads during the construction period. Signs re-directing traffic are expected to be posted three days before the road is temporarily closed.
The school district is in the process of constructing a new middle school at Lithopolis Road and Parkview Drive, which will house grades six through eight. It is scheduled to be completed in November. The approximately $20.4 million project also includes construction of an addition to the Winchester Trails complex.
