Letter to the Editor: Olympians appreciate communitys send-off

I would like to thank all the volunteers at the state and local levels who make the Special Olympics Summer Games possible. I know many people spend the weekend away from their families and loved ones.

I would also like to thank the London Police Department and all of the participating local businesses involved for such a wonderful send-off on June 27. The athletes were very taken by all the extra attention and loved the wonderful community support.

One more thank you goes out to the employees of Buckeye Ford for providing our program with a much needed quality vehicle to transport our athletes to and from this year’s games.

All in all, this year’s Games seemed to be more of a community affair than I can ever recall, and that is what is so special about Special Olympics.

I hope more individuals become involved in our county’s program. To learn more about the Madison County Special Olympics program, call 740-852-7050. To make a donation, send a check or money order to: Madison County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 88, London, Ohio 43140.
