Share the Christmas spirit with those in need
It is hard to believe but another year is quickly coming to a close which brings us to our annual Adopt-A-Family program.
This year we already have nearly 30 families requesting assistance and I anticipate we will easily surpass last year’s record of 54 families, which included about 300 individuals.
We have developed a set of guidelines to help ensure that every child and family that is assisted through this program will receive equitable treatment. Although the toy part of Christmas is the fun part, we believe the true purpose of Adopt-A-Family is not accomplished if a child returns to school after the new year wearing the same outfit that did not fit before the holiday. Therefore, every child that is adopted will receive two outfits of clothing with socks and underwear, pajamas, shoes and three "fun" things from their wish list. Every adult receives a small gift, and every family receives a holiday food basket.
We ask each of you to consider becoming involved with the Adopt-A-Family program by being a "giver." Whether you choose to contribute as an individual or as a project within your business or organization, there are many ways to participate:
•Adopt one child, a family, or families.
•Sponsor a gift card tree.
•Sponsor a food drive.
•Sponsor a clothing drive – collect hats and mittens, socks and underwear, etc.
•Sponsor a toy drive – or a book drive – or a game drive – or a movie drive.
•Contribute financially – last year 90 individuals were not adopted and Human Services took responsibility to provide their holiday assistance. Financial contributions will help us support individuals and families that we are unable to "adopt" to organizations or groups.
As you see, there are many ways to be a part of this project. Customize one of the above suggestions that will work within your organization, or implement your own idea. Find the best way to be a part of this worthwhile annual program.
Please contact me if you have questions, need more information, or hopefully, want to participate. I will have families ready for "adoption" immediately. Should you decide to "adopt," let me know how many children you want with any preferences you may have. We ask that you also take responsibility for the parent/guardian that is associated with the child/children you adopt.
Together, we have the opportunity to share the Christmas spirit with those in the Canal Winchester School District who are less fortunate that we. Please join us to celebrate the holidays and share the true meaning of Christmas by contributing what resources you have available.
Happy holidays!
