Participants of Alex’s Legacy of Love 5K finish their last lap at Groveport Recreation Center on April 23. Runners came for the fundraiser of the Alexandria Leigh Goodwin Angel Foundation, an organization committed to creating a positive, loving world through random acts of kindness in memory of the late Alexandria Goodwin. “Alex,” a 2014 Groveport Madison graduate, unexpectedly passed in 2016, and was known for her kindness. Her mother, Sara Sherman, hopes to encourage the continuation of random acts of kindness through this organization.
Sara Sherman (left), Alexandria’s mother, and Dawn Overly, of Bexley Police Department, celebrate Overly’s medal after her completion of Alex’s Legacy of Love 5K. Overly has stood with the family since Alex’s passing and said, “It’s all about coming out to be with your community, to do something, and ultimately supporting this family.” She helped Sherman organize her late daughter’s first 5K years ago and has been a major supporter of the family ever since. “I have a child, and this is how I would hope people would support her.” said Overly.
Participants cross the finish line with relief at the Legacy of Love 5K held at Groveport Recreation Center. For information visit www.thealga.org.
