Starting next school year, students at London Elementary will get an extra dose of technology education.
Once a week, each child in kindergarten through fifth grade will spend time on Easy Tech lessons, an online curriculum that focuses on word processing, spreadsheets, database skills, and keyboard skills. A teacher will guide students through the course.
Students also will be able to log into Easy Tech from home for additional practice and instruction, said Stefanie Cox, assistant principal.
Student internships
London City Schools is collaborating with the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and area businesses to develop an internship program for high school students. Participating students would spend part of the school day in the classroom and part of the day on-site at an area business. The Chamber’s Workforce Readiness Credential would be part of the curriculum. The hope is to pilot the program with a handful of students next school year, said Dr. Lou Kramer, superintendent.
Art and Quick Recall achievements
Several London High School students submitted artwork for the annual Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. In regional judging on March 5, 23 London pieces advanced to state judging, set to take place March 12. Seniors who have been in the art program for four years created 13 of the 23 pieces. They are: Allisyn Carey, Megan Cox, Zach Ditterline, Alyssa Hoffman, Maddie Mayhorn, Allie Mentzer, Sydney Price, Max Shuff and Jacob Sollars.
Artwork by students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be displayed as part of the school district’s annual Fine Arts Festival set for April 2.
Eisler also recognized the Quick Recall team, which ended its season with a 9-5 record, including a third-place finish at the Paul Boyd tournament.
Staffing changes
The board approved supplemental contracts for two staffers. Elizabeth Warner was named coordinator at the middle school for the Fine Arts Festival. Michael Crawford was approved as the middle school girls’ softball coach.
The board accepted the resignation of Rosa Kinder-Flores, high school science teacher, effective the end of this school year. They also approved the hiring of Megan Dooley as a bus driver.
College Credit Plus
Once again, the district signed College Credit Plus agreements with Clark State Community College and Columbus State Community College.
