The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Kyle Cox as London High School’s October Student of the Month.

Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.

Kyle has a 4.58 grade point average, is ranked sixth in his class and states his favorite class is computer science. He has participated in Quick Recall for two years and National Honors Society for one year. He has been on the merit honor roll the past three years and was named a Junior Kiwanian last school year.

When asked to name a school staff person who inspires him, he named Dan Karl, computer science and mathematics teacher.

“Mr. Karl is an inspiration to me due to how willing he is to give me opportunities for my future,” Kyle said. “He has guided me through two AP (Advanced Placement) computer science classes. I would have never been able to find out I have a natural talent for coding. He also has given me opportunities to further my computer science knowledge, such as giving me the resources to take an advanced cyber security course during this school year.

“Mr. Karl is a friendly face that I always knew I could count on, and I am very glad he took the opportunity to teach computer science my freshman year. I owe a lot of my growth in computer science to him.”

About Kyle, Karl said, “Kyle Cox is an exceptional student at London High School. He is kind, curious, creative, self-motivated and responsible. Over the past four years, Kyle has excelled in my computer science courses, as well as many other advanced level courses. He has shown a great interest in computer science and not only is he thorough with his own learning, he has helped many other students learn along the way.

“Kyle has already successfully passed two different AP computer science exams. Currently, Kyle is working very hard in his cyber security class to independently study for and pass the CompTIA Security+ test which will earn him an industry relevant credential. I am very proud of Kyle, both as a student and a young man with a very bright future in the field of computer science.”

After graduation, Kyle plans to attend Wright State University and major in computer science. He is the son of Jeff and Jill Cox of London.

The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a volunteer organization of 1.2 million businesses and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build good will and peace.
