Buckeye Pedal Pullers takes kiddie tractor pedal pulls to a whole new level.

Based in Bucyrus, Ohio, the outfit is making its debut at the 2022 Madison County Fair. Children ages 4 to 11 years old are invited to compete for trophies and even a chance to qualify for state competition. This year’s fair pull takes place at 12 p.m. July 16 in sheep arena.

“We are the only kiddie tractor pullers in Ohio who are sanctioned by the National Pedal Pullers Association,” said Gary Daiber, who has owned and operated the business for the past 11 years.

Sanctioning means the top three finishers in each age group at Buckeye Pedal Pullers events qualify to compete at the state championship, if they so choose. This year’s state competition takes place Aug. 13 at the Hartford Independent Fair in Croton, Ohio. Winners in Croton move on to the national championship which takes place in September at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

“Approximately 25 other states participate,” Daiber said.

Even if your child simply aspires to have a good time at the Madison County Fair, kiddie tractor pulls are a good bet. There is no cost to enter, and every participant goes home with a ribbon. Winners receive trophies.

Daiber stays busy. This year alone, he is hosting pulls at 47 events around Ohio, from fairs and festivals to antique tractor shows, church functions and other events. He is excited to add Madison County to the list this year.

“We are very happy they invited us,” said Daiber, who runs Buckeye Pedal Pullers with the help of his son and daughter-in-law.

Kiddie pedal pulling started as a hobby for the family then grew into a business. Daiber said working with children is what he likes most about it.

“I’ve had kids who have stayed with me competing from the time they were 4 through 11 years old–they’re just like family to me,” he said, adding that he gets emotional when they compete at the state and national levels.
