The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Ken Shafer as Madison-Plains High School’s November Student of the Month.
Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.
Shafer has a 4.1 grade point average and a 34 composite ACT score. His favorite course is Advance Placement Calculus. Shafer is a four-year member of the high school’s OMEA superior-rated marching and concert bands and has been a section leader for three years. He has been a four-year member of the Quick Recall team which won the Ohio Heritage Conference league championship last year. He is a member of the National Honor Society.
When asked to name a school staff member who inspires him, Shafer replied, “Mr. (Luke) Sondej, first because we both like math but also because of his work ethic. Mr. Sondej is often the first teacher in the building and the last teacher to leave.”
About Shafer, Sondej stated, “Kenny Shafer has been one of the best students I have had the privilege to teach here at Madison-Plains High School. His drive for knowledge and dedication to education is parallel to none. He also combines that with great relationships among his classmates, and he brings his unique sense of humor into the classroom.”
After graduation, Shafer plans to attend The Ohio State University and major in biology with a forensic specialization. He also hopes to play in The Ohio State University marching band. He is the son of Ken and Melissa Shafer.
