Sometimes it seems like Kathy Frank is everywhere doing volunteer work in the community.
“She’s very active in the community,” said Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp. “She was raised here and raised her own family here. She’s done wonderful things in the community and with her fitness clients. People love her.”
In recognition of her community efforts, Frank will be inducted into the Groveport Hall of Honor on May 7 at 1 p.m. at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, Groveport. Anyone interested in attending the induction ceremony are asked to call Cathy Kirkwood at (614) 836-1000, ext. 1504 by April 29.
“She’s very deserving of this honor,” said Westcamp.
Frank said she feels “extremely humbled” by the honor.
“This is my home, my town, my community, my school, my children’s school and my feeling is we should always give back,” said Frank. “This is how I was brought up. We help each other. That’s what we’re here for. People are what make a community strong.”
Frank’s family moved to Groveport in 1966 and she is a 1979 graduate of Groveport Madison High School. Since then she has served the city of Groveport, Groveport Madison Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in many ways including: member of the Groveport Elementary PTO for nine years serving as president for five years; member of the Groveport Madison levy committee in the late 1990s; parent volunteer for the Cruiser baseball team, the Cruiser Theatre and After Prom; member of the Groveport Madison Alumni Association and is an Alumni Association Hall of Fame Co-Leader; teaching fitness classes at the Groveport Recreation Center; Groveport Recreational Pool Board trustee; and volunteering to help with the Groveport Car Show, Farmer’s Market, Art Show, Groveport Aquatic Center grand opening; Center for Groveport Madison Human Needs, Groveport Adopt-a-Family, community choir, church choir, youth group volunteer parent, smorgasbord committee and more.
Previous Groveport Hall of Honor inductees include Eric Smith (2007), John Frye (2008), Jim McKee (2010) and Jim and Cindy Hollingshead (2011).
This honor could not go to a more deserving wonderful person. I am proud to call her a very dear friend of mine. We started as pool buddies back in 92-93, only to realize we had mutual friends that she had grown up with from elementary school. As our children grew so as did our friendship, thru school, prom, New Years, vacation and our parents. Kathy has always been a proud Groveport native with great pride in being a Cruiser.
