The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County. If you are interested in adopting a pet, fill out an application online at www.hsmcohio.org or call the shelter at (614) 879-8368.
Jonas is a big, goofy sweetheart who is now available for adoption. After being found abandoned on the side of the highway with a broken leg, he has made a wonderful recovery and his personality has come shining through.
Jonas weighs in at a whopping 75 pounds and is estimated to be just under 2 years old. He is a love bug who would love to romp, play and give kisses all day. Because of his size, it would be best if he is in a house without cats or small dogs. When he was tested with other dog-friendly dogs at the shelter, he did best with the bigger dogs because of his size. (He doesn’t realize he isn’t a lap dog).
He might need help to learn how to speak “dog” because he just wants to be around other people and other dogs so badly. The shelter staff doesn’t know if he ever received appropriate socialization before he came to the shelter. Also, the staff isn’t sure how he would do with kids but they feel he should not go to a home with young kids because he might unintentionally knock them down during play time.
Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $150, prison dogs are $200, puppies are $250, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17. Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
Miss Jeanette was found as a very pregnant stray in Plain City, darting back and forth across the busy road. A good Samaritan saved her, and she has lived in a foster home since intake. After only one day in her foster home, she gave birth to her beautiful kittens and was an excellent mom. Her foster family says she’s been such a wonderfully grateful guest who now enjoys the life of being an indoor-only cat.
Miss Jeanette is an easygoing, tidy lady and a perfect mix of play and relaxation. She can usually be found curled up in bed or a cozy cat tree, but she will be ready to play at a moment’s notice with any cat toy or even human hands. She enjoys the company of humans and fur friends alike. In her foster home, she cohabited nicely with a toddler and other cat-friendly dogs and cats. She particularly made great friends with one of the residential cats, and they spent hours cuddling and cleaning each other daily.
While her foster family is sad to see her go on to greater things, they know she will make a family an amazing cat because she is so purrfect.
The adoption fee is $80 for kittens up to 6 months old and $60 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test, spay or neuter, set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
