Jo-Ann Stores LLC is scheduled to open a fulfillment center later this year in West Jefferson.
According to David Kell, executive director of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the fabric and craft company plans to lease an existing building at 1020 Enterprise Pkwy. Exeter Property Group, which has offices in Columbus, owns the building. Jo-Ann Stores is the building’s first tenant.
Information released from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office states that Jo-Ann Stores expects to create 175 full-time positions at the West Jefferson facility, generating $5.7 million in new annual payroll.
In January, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) approved a 1.192 percent, eight-year job creation tax credit for the project.
The tax credit was one of six TCA approved last month. All six requests were proposed by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Collectively, the projects are expected to result in more than $173 million in new payroll and spur more than $347 million in investments across Ohio.
The other central Ohio business receiving a tax credit is Kalera Inc., a Columbus company that produces nutrient-rich, pesticide-free and GMO-free produce through urban, vertical hydroponic farming technology.
Founded in 1943 as a single retail store in Cleveland, Ohio, Jo-Ann Stores now operates more than 850 retail stores in 49 states and an e-commerce business. The company is based in Hudson, Ohio.
