Jarvis named new Madison Township trustee

Madison Township Trustee Chairman John Pritchard and Vice-Chair Katherine Chipps announced on Jan. 26 that Bruce Jarvis is the newest member of the Madison Township Board of Trustees.

Jarvis will begin his term immediately.

The trustees cited the past local elected public service and lengthy local community involvement Jarvis brings to the current board that helped finalize their decision.

The trustees said Jarvis understands government, and while the specific governing process may be different from that of a city, he will have less of a learning curve than the other candidates.

Jarvis resides in the Canal Winchester Preservation District within the city of Canal Winchester.

Initially, seven individuals submitted resumes by Jan. 6 for the open seat. Before the first round of interviews, however, one candidate withdrew after further consideration.

Six candidates underwent two interviews each, one with the department heads and the other with the two trustees. The group then shared perspectives, and the trustees narrowed their choice down to two individuals. They felt that as the day-to-day managers of the township departments, it was important for the department heads to have interaction and feedback regarding the candidates.

This open seat occurred following Trustee Michele Reynolds’ successful campaign in November 2022 for State Senate District 3 seat. She resigned from her position as trustee effective Dec. 31, 2022. Jarvis will serve through Dec. 31, 2023.

Jarvis plans to be on the ballot for the General Election in November 2023 to be elected to a four-year term.

Township officials thanked all those who interviewed for the open seat. Chipps and Pritchard agreed that it was a good pool of candidates and hope to continue interacting with each of them at community events and through volunteer opportunities.
