The Humane Society of Madison County closed to the public on March 17. The organization’s goal is to contribute to the efforts to slow transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) by reducing the amount of people coming through the shelter’s doors. The staff is being proactive with cleaning and disinfecting all areas of the building.
As of March 20, the Humane Society is continuing to accept applications for adoptions, adopting out cats and dogs, and scheduling meet-and-greets for potential adopters. The staff is answering telephone calls, emails and any messages that come their way. They ask that the public call to set an appointment time before coming out to the shelter.
The Humane Society is taking in strays via the Madison County Dog Warden and citizens. Owners are able to collect their pets from the shelter with scheduled pick-up times.
To report a lost pet, call the Humane Society at (614) 879-8368.

Pets up for adoption

The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society.
Buster arrived at the shelter on Dec. 13 after he was found by a citizen. He is a big 10-pound kitty with an estimated birthdate of Dec. 13, 2015. Buster loves pets and attention, and he will let you know when he wants them. You can hear him chirping from the shelter’s cat room, waiting for someone to come show him love. This big boy is so sweet and loving that we are sure he will make someone a wonderful companion for their home.

Rodney arrived at the shelter on Aug. 27, 2019. Shelter staff believe he is a pitbull mix, with an estimated birthdate of Aug. 27, 2016. He weighs 51 pounds. Rodney is a peppy guy that is tons of fun. He is all about treats, love and going for walks. Rodney already knows how to sit when told, but he still needs some work on other commands like “down,” because he likes to jump on people due to excitement. When the staff tested him with other dogs, he did very well and enjoyed being around them. Rodney is a super sweet guy and will be a wonderful companion for any active home.
