When Dr. Jack Starr, medical director of Loving Care Hospice, recently traveled to the Dominican Republic, he thought about a small, but important item travelers must take with them: a passport.
Though required for international travels, the small book contains a greater meaning of validating a person’s life journeys, a meaning Starr shared with staff upon his return that ultimately inspired this year’s theme for one of the organization’s largest annual fundraisers.
“In our line of business, we have the honor of being a part of a journey each and every one of us will travel through,” said Tiffaney Lee, marketing coordinator at Loving Care Hospice and Home Health.
Established in London in 1993 as the only local, non-profit hospice agency, Loving Care Hospice will host a “Your Greatest Adventure!” spring dinner and auction at 6 p.m. May 13 at Tolles Career and Technical Center, 7877 U.S. Route 42 South, Plain City.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the organization’s Patient Fund, which assists terminally ill patients who may not have the hospice benefit within their insurance plans or do not have the funds to cover care.
Serving Madison, Union and sur-rounding counties, Loving Care Hospice provided more than $152,500 in non-reimbursed care in 2015.
The May fundraiser will include a catered meal from Der Dutchman, raffles, and live and silent auctions with more than 100 items available.
“We invite the community to attend this event and remember that just by attending, they could ease the financial burden of a hospice patient and their family right here in our county,” Lee said.
For those who cannot attend but want to help, Lee said organizers are collecting auction items. Companies that donate an auction item or provide a cash donation before May 2 will receive recognition in the event program.
The cost to attend is $35 per person, which includes dinner. Guests may register by calling the London office at (740) 852-7755 or the Marysville office at (937) 644-1928. Registration is due by May 6.
