Hopkins retires after 45 years as fire fighter

Madison County Commissioner David Hunter (left) thanks John Hopkins, assistant fire chief for Central Townships Joint Fire District, for his service. Hopkins is retiring after 45 years as a fire fighter in Madison County. He started his career with the London Fire Department in 1974 and has been with Central Townships since 1980. In retirement, Hopkins said he hopes to deliver fire trucks around the country for Sutphen, a fire truck manufacturer. The county commissioners passed a proclamation on April 9 in recognition of Hopkinsā€™s years of service.
