The city of Grove City’s annual Winter Lights Christmas Celebration will take place Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m. in the Town Center. Streets will close for this event.

This year’s theme, Frosty and Friends, will be reflected in Town Center merchant window displays. There will be a community parade and ice sculptures. Attendees can also take a free horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets, visit and take pictures with Santa Claus and enjoy performances by the Grove City Chamber Singers and the Grove City and Central Crossing High School choirs.

Pictures with Santa are $5, with all proceeds benefitting Children’s Hospital.

The 2008 Winter Lights Parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature floats  decorated in Christmas lights. The parade route will start at Park Street Intermediate School and proceed north on Wilbur Avenue, turn west down Columbus Street, travel south on Broadway through the Town Center and progress east on Park Street back to the school.

Following the parade, Santa and Mayor Ike Stage will lead the ceremonial lighting of the tree.

Park Street, west of Broadway, will close at 2 p.m. Park Street, east of Broadway, and Broadway from Grant Avenue to Grove City Road will close at 5:30 p.m.

Non-perishable food, toy and monetary donations will be collected for the Grove City Food Pantry and the Jackson Township Fire Department’s Toys for Kids program. The first 1,000 donors will receive a free gift in exchange for their contribution.

For more information on this and other programming, contact Grove City Parks and Recreation at 277-3050 or visit www.grovecityohio.gov.
