GYAA cheer squad takes first place

The Groveport Youth Athletic Association’s Senior Cheerleading Squad recently won first place in the WGP 17th annual Cheer and Dance Challenge at Capital University. During the Nov. 7 competition, the squad took home the trophy in the Junior Non-Mount Division. After cheering together throughout GYAA’s football regular season in Groveport and playoffs in Grove City, the squad competed with more than 35 other teams and duets. Under the direction of Coach Lindsay Maggs and Assistant Coach Erica Hale, the team practiced more than 28 hours in the span of two weeks to prepare a new routine specifically for the competition. Many members of the Senior Cheerleading Squad will continue to cheer together in 2022 as GYAA brings back a basketball league for the first time in many years. Squad members are, from left to right: (bottom row): Aubree Barnett, Estell Hale, Alexis Ketron, Ella Cartmill, Lexie Fox; (middle row): LonDon Ayers, Ava Quinonez, Lexi Rodriguez, Addyson Hale; (top row) Ava McDonald, Coach Maggs, Morgan Holbrook.
