Plans are in the works to expand the Groveport Senior Village development.
LW Associates is seeking to amend the zoning for 7.4 acres at 5090 Hendron Road, which neighbors the existing Groveport Senior Village senior housing development, to allow for the construction of 50 units of senior housing. Each unit would be 905 square feet. The development would also include a community building and community garden. The residences would be available for individuals age 55 and up.
“This Phase 2 would be a mirror image of the existing Groveport Senior Village,” said Groveport Building Official Stephen Moore at the city’s Oct. 5 planning and zoning commission meeting.
Todd Valentine of LW Associates said the Phase I Groveport Senior Village has been “wildly successful with 100 percent occupancy” and that there is a strong waiting list of seniors seeking to take up residency there.
“The city is wonderful and there is still a need for more of this type of senior housing in Groveport,” said Valentine, who added Phase 2 would help fulfill this need.
Valentine said, if all goes as planned, the $8 to $10 million, Phase 2 project could begin construction by March of 2017 with completion by the spring of 2018.
Groveport City Council heard the second reading of the ordinance for the rezoning request on Oct 13 and will make decisions on the rezoning request and the development plan at a future date.
