Groveport news: power outages, road closure, food pantry open house

Power outages
Groveport City Administrator Marsha Hall said American Electric Power is in the process of reviewing the entire electrical circuit in the city of Groveport after a series of recent power outages.

The power outages have ranged from several hours on June 18 (due to a tree falling on a power line) to shorter “blips” where the power goes out momentarily.
Hall noted some of the city’s electronic equipment has suffered about $10,000 in damage following the recent outages.

West Bixby Road closure
West Bixby Road, from Bixby Ridge Drive East to the western entrance driveway at Madison Christian School, will close for construction on July 6, according to Groveport City Engineer Steve Farst. The closure is expected to last 21 days.Police and fire services, mail delivery, and trash collection will continue.

Detours: 1) East and north bound travelers will follow Groveport Road east to State Route 317, turning left and going north toward the Bixby Road/State Route 317 intersection to access all properties located east of 3529 Bixby Road. 2) West and south bound travelers will follow State Route 317 in a southerly direction, turning right and going west on Groveport Road toward the Bixby Road/Groveport Road intersection to access all properties located west of 3339 Bixby Road and the Bixby Ridge subdivision.

Food Pantry open house
The Greater Groveport Food Pantry, 595 Cherry St., Groveport, will hold an open house on July 4 from 1-3 p.m. The public is invited to visit the food pantry. Anyone who brings a food or cash donation will get one raffle ticket for a chance to win a Fourth of July gift basket. There will also be cookies and punch.

The Greater Groveport Food Pantry provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families living within the Groveport Madison School District. The food pantry is operated by volunteers and partnered local churches and relies on donations from the community. Food distribution is scheduled for Thursdays and is by appointment only.
