Class of 1988 steps up
At the Aug. 13 Groveport Madison Board of Education meeting, Renee Fray, from the Groveport Madison High School class of 1988, presented a $1,100 donation to the district to help cover the expense of personal protective equipment the schools will need this year. The board stated it is grateful to the class of 88 for its generosity.

Groveport Madison Schools start date
According to Groveport Madison Schools’ officials, while the school calendar shows Aug. 31 as the first day of school, classes do not actually begin until Sept. 8. The district will distribute Chromebook computers the week of Aug. 31.

Income tax revenue
The city of Groveport’s 2020 income tax revenue as of July 31 is $9.3 million, which is 13.3 percent lower than the same time in 2019. Income tax revenues comprise the largest portion of the city’s total revenues year-to-date, or 56 percent of all revenues, according to Groveport Finance Director Jason Carr.

Sidewalk replacements
The city of Groveport will contract with Harber Concrete at a cost of $49,776 to replace sidewalks in the city where needed in September. Sidewalks along parts of the following streets will be replaced: Main Street, Elm Street, Cherry Street, Green Avenue, Glendening Drive, Bixby Ridge Drive East, Founders Drive, Landmark Drive, Canyon Grove, Bixford Avenue, Front Street, Blacklick Street, Tallman Street, Greenhill Drive, Erdem Court, Falk Court, Vantage Way, Birchgrove Drive, Philips Run, Peach Canyon Drive, Walnut Street, College Street, Kessler Street, Harbinger Court, Bixby Ridge Drive West, Bixwood Court, Landings Road, Golden Grove Court, and Felicity Court.

Residents who live on properties adjacent to the sidewalk replacements will receive notification from the city about the work.

Groveport Road studies
Groveport City Engineer Steve Farst said two studies will be conducted along the Groveport Road corridor. One is a safety study between Greenpointe Drive and the Kroger entrance to identify and design intersection improvements at Greenpointe Drive and at State Route 3l7. The other is a planning study of the thoroughfare route between Bixby Road and State Route 317.

Main Street repairs
The intersection of Main and College streets in Groveport will undergo repairs in late August/September. According to Groveport City Engineer Steve Farst, the intersection will be resurfaced, have drainage improvements, corrected American Disabilities Act ramps and sidewalks, and streetprint crosswalks. There will be partial closures and detours on Main Street during daylight hours.
