Groveport mayor honors Cruiser band

Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp and the city of Groveport honored the Groveport Madison High School Cruisers Marching Band with a mayoral proclamation on Jan. 16 at the high school. The proclamation recognizes the band’s achievements and performances at the 2018 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and Parade in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 29, including the band being named the 2018 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Parade Grand Champion. The band participated in the Peach Bowl parade and in a combined 11 marching band pre-game show at the Peach Bowl football game between Florida and Michigan. Also, in competitions, the concert and jazz bands received first place with a gold ratings in Category 1. Spencer Linlinger won outstanding soloist in the jazz band competition. Westcamp told the band that their hard work shows the dedication and commitment the students have toward their school and community. “These young people are great ambassadors for the city of Groveport, the Groveport Madison School District, and this entire community,” said Westcamp. The band performed music from their Peach Bowl show as well as the school fight song for the mayor and city officials prior to the reading of the proclamation.
