A new chief financial officer and treasurer will soon be headed to the Groveport Madison Local School District, and school officials are seeking community input in selecting the qualifications for the new employee.

At the Aug. 8 meeting of the Groveport Madison Board of Education, Superintendent Scott McKenzie announced Treasurer Anne Spano has accepted the position of chief financial officer and treasurer at the Chagrin Falls School District in northeast Ohio effective Sept. 1.

Spano plans to stay through the end of August to assist in the transition, although Assistant Treasurer Joyce Dishroon handled the treasurer’s duties at the Aug. 8 meeting.

Board President June Gibbs said she hates to see Spano leave because she has offered stability in forecasting the district’s revenue and has always been forthcoming to board members with information they requested.

Spano, who has been with Groveport Madison schools for two and a half years, will return to northeast Ohio where she grew up and still has family in the area.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and my family," Spano said in a written statement.

"The search for treasurer for the Groveport Madison schools will begin immediately," McKenzie announced. "The Education Service Center of Franklin County, in particular, Dr. Ralph Johnson and Dr. Aron Ross, will facilitate the search on behalf of the district."

McKenzie said the posting of the vacancy and application can be found online at www.fcesc.org/groveport. The application deadline for interested candidates is Sept. 7, and the board is expected to vote on the hiring of the new treasurer at the Oct. 10 board meeting. The new treasurer is expected to begin duties in early December.

A series of meetings to provide input on the desired qualifications and essential skills needed to fulfill this position will be conducted beginning with the board’s Finance and Business Operations subcommittee meeting at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 15. In addition, McKenzie said prominent community members – including the Madison Township trustees, Groveport Village Council members and Southeast Chamber of Commerce officials – will receive written invitations to this meeting.

Another meeting for district employees, other active members of the school community and members of the public has tentatively been set for 7 p.m. Aug. 22. Both meetings are scheduled to be held at the district’s central office at 5940 Clyde Moore Dr.
