The city of Groveport’s trash and recycling collection contract with Local Waste Services expires on Dec. 31.

The city participates in a consortium for refuse and recycling collection services. The consortium is managed by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio. To enter into a new contract, the refuse and recycling collection service is required, by law, to be put out for competitive bid.

The competitive bid process resulted in two bids being submitted. Bids were received from Local Waste Services and Rumpke of Ohio. The bids were for the continuation of the current refuse and recycling services (status quo services). The current services consist of trash collection, using your own can if preferred, and recycling collection using the provided recycling totes.

The submitted bids for the status quo services are:

•Local Waste Services: $19/20 per month with a $1.80 quarterly billing fee.

•Rumpke of Ohio: $21.61 per month with a $2.55 quarterly billing fee.

The city accepted the Local Waste Services bid since it is the lower of the two. Local Waste Services is familiar with the community due to their history of providing refuse and recycling collection to residents of Groveport.

The cost for refuse and recycling collection has not increased the past five years.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2021 the new monthly rate for refuse and recycling collection will be $19.20 per month, billed on a quarterly basis. Each quarterly bill will include an additional $1.80 billing fee.
