Two veteran photographers are among the winners in the 2007 photo contest at Geen Lawn Cemetery.
C.M. Zelms of Powell won first place with a photo showing carnations and a penny on a marker. The photo was entitled “Penny For Your Thoughts.”
Second place went to the Westside’s Mariana Cornell who entered a photo of a silhouette of a sundial. It was entitled “Heavenly Shadow.”
Jared Krenrick won third place with a color photo showing the World War II section showing the backs of headstones.
Judges said they looked for composition when selecting winning entries and commented on the lines that are evident in Krenrick’s entry.
Both Zelms and Krenrick are repeat winners in the annual contest while this is Cornell’s first win. Prizes of $300, $200, and $100, coupons from area restaurants, and certificates were awarded to the winners at the Jan. 5 First Saturday at Green Lawn program. More than 40 photos were entered in the contest.
The annual contest runs from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. Photographers can submit up to three photos taken at Green Lawn anytime during the current calendar year.
Contest entries are displayed at libraries, senior centers and art galleries throughout the year and are used in the calendar that the Green Lawn Volunteers produce and sell every year. A selection of photos from the past few years is on display at the Westerville Library through the end of January.
Photo contest rules are available at the Green Lawn office at 1000 Greenlawn Ave., and also at the Web site www.greenlawncolumbus.org.
