The following are among the pets up for adoption at the Humane Society of Madison County.

Grayson

Grayson
Hey, everyone! I’m Grayson. I am new to the shelter and looking for a forever home. I am about 1 year old, so very much still a puppy who is looking for a safe place to land. I weigh about 53 pounds and am told I am a lab mix, whatever that means. I am smart, still have plenty of puppy energy, and the ladies here tell me I am a very handsome boy. I like to be goofy, play with toys, and get butt scratches.

I would love a family who will play fetch with me in a fenced-in backyard because I really, really like that game. At this time, I am just a little too energetic for other dogs; I just don’t know how to speak doggy language. Maybe when I am in a good home, you can help me learn? For now I’m told I need to go to a home where I am the only dog so I can get used to what it feels like to be loved and adored. I promise I am the goodest boy! I’ll do whatever you want me to and give you lots of laughs during our adventures together. Please give me a chance.

Adoption fees for dogs vary: shelter dogs are $180, prison dogs are $250, puppies are $300, and popular pure-breeds are $400. The price includes: a Home Again microchip, set of shots, deworming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17; this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be paid by cash or credit card.

Lark

Lark
Lark says, “All kittens aside, I was a great mom and will make an even better furever companion!” Lark came to the shelter with her four kittens and did a wonderful job raising them. She has had the opportunity to raise her family in a foster home, and her foster family says Lark has been such a pleasant and loving house guest.

Lark, who is still young herself, has so much love and spunk to give a family of her very own. This sweet girl loves attention and shows so much affection! She also loved to romp and play with her kittens and would love someone who would actively play with her daily. She loves cat toys, most especially kitty “pom pom” balls which she will carry around and meow as she plays.

While in her foster home, Lark has had the opportunity to live with a small pet-experienced child, which Lark adores. She is slowly meeting other pets in the home and does well with other cat-friendly cats. She doesn’t take too kindly to other kitties who are hissy; she gets offended and doesn’t understand why everyone can’t just be friends. She is currently learning dogs can coexist with kitties, too, and respects doggies who give her lots of space.

Lark is estimated to be 1 year old and is petite in size.

The adoption fee is $80 for kittens up to 6 months old and $60 for cats 7 months and older. It includes: a FeLV/FIV test, spay or neuter, set of shots, deworming, and a one-year rabies shot (if old enough). Fees can be paid by cash or credit card.
