The Prairie Township Community Center is ready for its big unveiling and township officials want the community to be a part of it.

The township will host a grand opening celebration event on Friday, July 10 from 5 to 9 p.m. Activities will include tours of the facility, group exercise demonstrations, balloon twisters, magicians, games and prizes, raffles, and an outdoor showing of the “Lego Movie.”

This $10 million facility is the first recreation center in the township, which is located in western Franklin County. With nearly 40,000 square feet, the center features a gymnasium, a recreational pool including lap lanes and an outdoor splash pad for kids. The center also includes a large fitness room for yoga, TRX, indoor cycling, hip hop dance and Zumba classes to name a few, and will be equipped with elliptical machines, treadmills, free weights, select rise equipment and full circuit training. Personal trainers will be available to help members meet their personal fitness goals. Finally, childcare and multipurpose rooms round out the offerings with programming for everyone from young children to the community’s senior citizens.

“We are thrilled to welcome the community into our new center,” said James Gant, recreation director for the township. “We believe we have something to offer everyone and look forward to getting to know more of our neighbors and becoming part of the fabric of this great community.”

In addition to the community center, the township is also in the process of developing a 111-acre Galloway Road Sports Complex, which is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

The Prairie Township Community Center is located at 5955 West Broad St. and operated by the Prairie Township Board of Trustees. The center is funded, in part, by a Joint Economic Development Zone (JED-Z) and was developed to serve the recreation needs of the citizens of Prairie Township and surrounding communities.
