Canal Winchester Construction Services Administrator Bill Sims reported on bids for the 2018 street program and Phase IV of the Gender Road improvement program.

Six contractors bid on the street program, with a $569,922 contract with Shelly and Sands getting the top recommendation as the lowest bidder. The contract was later approved by council members under emergency language.

Utility contractors are moving lines in advance of the fourth phase of the reconstruction of Gender Road and Canal Winchester City Council approved a recommendation to enter into a contract with Strawser Paving for nearly $2.3 million.

Three other companies in Columbus and Plain City bid on the project, which includes improvements from the Gender and Groveport Road intersection north to the railroad crossing.

Work on Groveport Road extends several hundred feet west of Gender Road to several hundred feet east of the intersection. Additional lanes, street lighting, reconstruction of the at-grade railroad crossing and new signalization are all part of the project.

Utility relocation work is currently underway with Gender Road construction expected to start in May.
